Laser Cutting

The newest project in my Digital Fabrication class has been to design a planer chair.

I wasn’t to excited about this at first, but once the project was explained further I got pretty excited.

Rapid prototyping style! Make a model, use the laser cutter to cut out the parts, find the flaws, fix it, re-cut it.

I love this way of designing, it allows for the final project to be built to the exactly the way you hoped. Rather than having to make sacrifices in the design as you build it and invest 20+ hours of work into a piece and being left with the thought of knowing it could have been done better.

So far this is what my partner and I have come up with:
